Jan creates his illustrations using relief printmaking techniques. All the imagery he creates is hand-carved from wood or linoleum, which then forms the base of his illustrations and posters often adding to it digitally while always maintaining a traditional look. Whether he’s using a vibrant palette or the deliberate absence of colour, the signature of his work easily recognisable. Jan works on a wide range of commissions but his main focus is on concert posters and book covers.

The Information Path

A 500 meter-long historical timeline displayed during the festival Graphic Matters. The trail consisted of 16 giant posters portraying highlights from the history of information design, allowing the visitors to learn about the people behind famous graphs, maps and instructions that shaped the world we live in today.

Knetterijs is a group of illustrators sharing a collective studio in Groningen. Each member is active as a freelance illustrator, spending most of their time working on individual commissions, but we also take on projects as a group. Knetterijs works on commissions for clients at home and abroad, for a wide variety of media.
