Jan Hamstra is a woodcut obsessed printmaker and illustrator. He mostly draws inspiration from the rich history of the woodcut medium, starring superheroes such as Frans Masereel and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Jan graduated from Minerva with a book and installation on political violence titled 'Manifesto of Doubt’. For this project he received the ‘’Minerva Art Academy Design Award’’ as well as an exhibition at museum Belvedere. Jan likes to divide his time working on a wide range of commissions and creates silkscreen gig posters for Vera Artdivision. His clients include Theater Bremen, Studio Plakband, Vera Groningen, Provincie Groningen and Goethe-Institut Israel.
